Naples Woman Loses More Than $20,000 In Amazon Scam
It’s never a good time to lose $20,000 and one Naples woman learned the hard way when she fell victim to an Amazon scam.
The Naples Police Department said the woman got an email she thought was from Amazon about an item she didn’t purchase. She clicked a link in that email and called someone who said they would credit her account.
NBC2 reports the scammer was then able to get into her computer and said he accidentally deposited money into her account and would need it returned. The woman then agreed to return the money and mailed $20,000 to an unknown location via UPS.
Tips to avoid being scammed:
- Be aware of your emails and where they come from
- Type in a website instead of clicking a link to it
- Don’t make purchases on public wifi
- Have antivirus software
- Use a credit card rather than a debit card
