Florida Man Busted For Stealing Candy, Bribing Cops With $1.5 Million
A Florida man with a sweet tooth has been arrested after stealing candy from a convenience store, and then trying to get out of it by bribing cops with $1.5 million.
26-year-old Joseph Lee Geist of Daytona Beach tried to pocket a package of gummy bears at a convenience store recently. Originally, he got away with it, but he decided to return to the store and that’s when things took a turn for the worse.
Geist told police that his name was Adam Richard Geist and even showed ID with that name, however, when officers were investigating, they learned that the man had signed up for a reward program offered by the store shortly before with the name of Joseph Lee Geist.
After a search in a mugshot database proved that his name was, indeed, Joseph, they also learned that he was wanted for felony battery in another Florida county.
Geist was arrested, and on the ride to the copshop, police say the man attempted to bribe the officers, eventually raising the amount to $1.5 million dollars. The bribe would be paid if the police would arrest him under the name he had given them earlier, Adam Richard Geist. That way, he would be set free shortly after being arrested.
Geist now faces up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. He is also charged with giving false information to an officer and stealing the bag of Gummies.
Sounds like a lot of trouble for a $3 bag of candy.
