Ivan Ruiz, a Belle Isle Police Officer, was arrested on Monday morning for a DUI.
Officers observed his pickup driving for miles with his turn signal still on, going 55 in a 40, and swerving.
When he was pulled over, he was slurring his speech, smelled of alcohol, and had red eyes.
When asked if he had been drinking, he said, “I was earlier.”
When officers asked him to step out of the car for a field sobriety test, he told the officers that he wasn’t wearing pants and asked if its ok if he put some on.
Halfway through the test, he decided to not continue any further.
He was arrested for DUI, open container, and refusal to submit to a field sobriety test.
Ruiz was hired as a patrol officer in Belle Isle in June 2017.
He resigned on Monday.
