The Collier County mask mandate has been extended in a 3-2 vote Thursday in an effort to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, according to the Collier County Board of County Commissioners.

The extension comes afters the county braces for a potential surge of cases this fall as part-time residents are expected to return.

The current mask mandate that went into effect on July 21st was set to expire Thursday, Oct. 22 but has now been extended April 13th, 2021.

The Collier County commissioners advised the public to report violators to law enforcement. There are no criminal charges for violations.

This is a developing story.
