Watch This Incredible Shark Encounter In New Smyrna Beach
GANSBAAI, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 19: A Great White Shark is attracted by a lure on the 'Shark Lady Adventure Tour' on October 19, 2009 in Gansbaai, South Africa. The lure, usually a tuna head, is attached to a buoy and thrown into the water in front of the cage with the divers. The waters off Gansbaai are the best place in the world to see Great White Sharks, due to the abundance of prey such as seals and penguins which live and breed on Dyer Island, which lies 8km from the mainland. Lindsey Baldwin didn’t know what was in store for her when she took her 3 year old child to the beach with her. But upon her first wave of the day, she encountered 3 sharks.
She said, “My three-year-old has been getting really into surfing and I wanted to see if my old GoPro still even worked so I took it for a spin, and that was the first wave I caught,”
Lindsey has been surfing since the age of 5 and expertly maneuvered around the sharks.
Baldwin said, “We see them a lot when the water temperature changes, which the water’s been so warm, and we’re just starting to get that hint of cooler water moving in because of the upwelling, so I think that’s kind of why they were right on cue.”
