The Raconteurs Top the Billboard 200 Album Chart
Jack White may have spent a chunk of this weekend taking music news website to task for clickbait headlines, but hopefully, he and The Raconteurs took a moment to celebrate their new album Help Us Stranger topping the Billboard 200 album chart.
Per Billboard, long-awaited third studio album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 moving 88,000 units, with 84,000 of that number coming from album sales. Of those 84,000 albums, 25,000 came from vinyl sales, which Billboard notes is the largest sales week for a vinyl LP in 2019 and the sixth-largest vinyl sales week since the Nielsen tracking-era began in 1991. (So far, the biggest vinyl sales week belongs to Jack White’s 2014 solo album Lazaretto, which moved 40,000 LPs in its debut week.
Third Man thanked those fans in the post by writing, “…We are so grateful to you for allowing our music to enter your home. Our heartfelt thanks to the independent community, record stores, and open ears and minds everywhere. Long live rock n roll.”
This is The Raconteurs first number one album. Their two previous albums, 2006’s Broken Boy Soldiers and 2008’s Consolers of the Lonely, both peaked at number seven.
The Racounteurs’ tour in support of Help Us Stranger kicks off July 12 in Detroit. A complete list of tour dates can be found at TheRaconteurs.com.
