How often do you top off your tank when refueling your vehicle?

You might be surprised to learn this common practice is actually not recommended by mechanics.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, topping off is when you add a bit more gas to your vehicle after the tank is full.

According to WCNC, what most people are unaware of, is that topping off could actually damage your vehicle.

The damage can occur in your vehicle’s evaporative emission system. This system is designed to prevent gas fumes from dispersing into the environment. However, when you top off your tank, liquid gasoline can leak into the evaporative emission system.

This damage can cost an upwards of one thousand dollars to fix.

Yikes. We had no idea!
