Covers are a fickle thing.  Some are “meh” at best; some end up more popular than the original.  One thing that's for sure fascinating is seeing artists that are polar opposite take on the same tune, and it doesn’t get more polar opposite than Frank Sinatra and Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious.

Sid would’ve turned 61 today (May 10), and in the 21 short years he spent on this planet, one of the lasting images he left was his performance of the Sinatra classic “My Way” from The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle.  We don’t know what’s more disturbing:  The violent ending of this video or that Sid’s cover appeared in an Acura ad.

Either way, we hope Sid has crossed paths with “Ol’ Blue Eyes” in music heaven (or hell) and gave Frank a hard time and told him his version was better.

We can all dream, can’t we?
