Judas Priest fans at the band’s show in Newark, New Jersey last night (March 20) received a major surprise when guitarist Glenn Tipton appeared on stage during the encore.
Tipton’s exit from touring due to his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis made headlines, but it was always made clear that he wasn’t official retiring from music altogether and that he was still a part of the Priest. However, few likely thought Tipton would be appearing on stage just five show’s into Priest’s current tour in support of their new album Firepower.
The moment was definitely special for everyone on stage last night, which Rob Halford elaborated on in talking with WRIF’s Meltdown:
“Man, it was just such a thrill. This is the first time Glenn has been out with us on stage…and Glenn came out to New York. We’ve just had a few really intense days in New York seeing all of our fans and the label, and doing all of these signings and so forth, and talking to our great friends in radio. Glenn’s there and he’s like, ‘I want to jam.’ So, he came out, and he did some encores with us. The fans went nuts! The room just blew up, and it was just a real great moment for Glenn and for everybody that following his incredible story.”
