For the first time in their illustrious career, Metallica is receiving Sweden’s highest music honor.

On June 14, the metal icons will receive the Polar Music Prize, which honors luminaries for their contributions to the music world.  Notable past winners include Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Led Zeppelin and more.

Recipients receive one million SEK, which is the equivalent to a little over $125,000.  Metallica will donate the award money to their All Within My Hands Foundation.

In other Metallica news:  Many fans now know of James Hetfield’s first dramatic acting role in the upcoming Ted Bundy film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.  Now a photo has surfaced of him on the set in the role of Officer Bob Hayward, the first law enforcement officer who arrested the notorious serial killer.
