Expect 2017 Who Tour Dates Soon
The Who is headed back to North — and South — America this year.
The announcement was made via a new posting at PeteTownshend.net, where the guitarist cited a recent interview by Who manager Bill Curbishley with the BBC, telling the network that, “I’m busy at the moment putting together some North American dates for later in the year for August and September.”
The South American shows, however, will be the Who’s first-ever performances on that continent. Curbishley says the group will play five shows there — three in Brazil, one in Santiago, Chile and a stadium date in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Curbishley’s wife is from. The Townshend site post says it’s “likely” one of the Brazilian dates will be at the Rock In Rio festival September 15-24.
Curbishley said the South American dates were inspired by the Who’s shows in Mexico City last fall in between its two Desert Trip festival concerts during October; “Mexico was something else,” Curbishley said. “So Pete Townshend said to me, ‘Now I know why you’ve been pushing us all this time to play South America.’ And he was still buzzing for, like, two weeks after that.”
The Who tour dates are expected to be announced soon.
